A book of many splendid colorful adventures about a young girl who travels between two worlds. That of the very wealthy and between those of extreme poverty while she unknowingly hides her real identity, as she must. But while she goes about her hours and her days of this life, she begins to come to grips with that feeling that has always been there. That something just does not feel quite right about herself and her position within her family. Although her parents make a lot of money, they do not seem to have much time for her. They barely notice the plain Jane bookworm daughter that comes home from school prepared to make her own dinner and get her own self ready for the next day of school. Ready to embark on a grand vacation to Paris, France, her parents act as if she as a young child is supposed to just care and fend for herself. And now that her nanny is gone, she practically does. Penelope Nell Magnificent of a wealthy family or is she, soon finds herself the human product of the underground tunnel life of Paris, France. Balancing between her fancy life of gourmet room service and life at a fancy hotel, she soon kidnaps herself from the life of her parents and it is hours before they even realize she has gone. But she is on a caper sure to make the Nancy Drew Mysteries of her parents' childhood come to life at a whole new level. She has a problem to solve and some information to uncover and her only original goal to find out where and why her nanny was dispatched out of her family mansion back home by her mother. Her quest for the truth is on.

The Pear Affair by Judith Eagle who once had a very positive young adult experience herself and later on as a young woman and a temporary resident of Paris was inspired to author this wonderful book for young adults for that very reason. As for the fictional character of our book, Penelope also finds that Paris, France becomes her as she finds some clues as to the whereabouts of adored and former lifelong nanny Pear whom she practically grew up with since an infant. But it seemed that young Penelope has always taken a backseat to mother's and father's mega multi million-dollar candy corporation. And since the mysterious disappearance of her beloved nanny Pear, Penelope has felt nearly invisible. A small designer purse she carries with her everywhere, may be one confident and transformational clue on the trail of some unfolding synchronicity on the way to some more firm answers about her true origin of birth. And a helpful group of orphans whose home among the many rooms of the underground sewage tunnels among whom Pear feels strangely comfortable among, she wonders about the children and really does not understand why. Some of the friends she made throughout her fantasia adventure here are a fashion designer who later designs a dress just for her specific personality, and of course the group of orphan children. Also, a young boy her age who employed by the hotel restaurant and other friends add enough clues to the detective quest of young Penelope and as the truth enfolds, so does the true identity of both Pear and Penelope.
